Think about the kinds of tools you want your team to have in the arsenal--you don't have to have all of them, but you should have a couple--and refine them into effective weapons come game time
Defnsive Adjustments: Downfield - Thoughts.
iUltiStats Beta Testing - Thoughts.
I've finally finished a beta of my ultiStats iPhone app...I'm looking for you to find bugs in the program, suggest design changes that might make it easier to use or look better, or even suggest features that I have not considered that you might like to see.
The Need for Better Scorekeeping - Thoughts.
We need more descriptive score keeping than the simple "X-X" final total. In much the same way that baseball scores by innings, or tennis has set-by-set counts (or really any sport has at least some temporal division), ultimate needs something more robust to help keep the fan clued in.
Training the lunge for better throwing
I'm not talking the standard step-forward, push back up type, I'm talking stepping at angles and especially stepping sideways. You'll see a noticeable improvement in your pivoting speed, which will in turn allow you to develop more effective fakes and generally become more capable with the disc in your hands.
Zone Sets: How to Run a 4-person Cup, Courtesy of Gwen Ambler
In my mind, the big difference between a 4-person cup zone (why doesn't anyone call it a 4-2-1?) and a 1-3-3 is the emphasis on pushing the disc backwards in the 4-person cup. The trap looks exactly the same, but in the middle of the field and on the non-trap sideline, the cup curls around, making the passing lanes out of the cup angle back much more than against a 1-3-3 or even a 3 person cup.
Thoughts.: More "Outliers"--Creating a Team Culture
How do you change an ultimate team's culture? Specifically, how do you create a culture of work (and, eventually, success), from a team culture that is more laid back?
Thoughts.: "Outliers," 10,000 Hours, and the Crucible of College
I've heard it said that you need to perform a throw 10,000 times in order to master it (e.g., 10,000 forehands), which is perhaps an ultimate paraphrasing of the 10,000 hours rule--for the uninitiated, this states simply that in order to reach an expert level of proficiency at something--ANYTHING--you need to invest about 10,000 hours into experience/practice/whatever you want to call it.
Thoughts.: Marking Thought: Be Mobile
Take a second and visualize yourself on the mark. The thrower takes a big step to the backhand side, pretty clear windup, she puts her head down...
...and then throws a convincing fake before pivoting back over to the forehand side.
My question: how were you attempting to stop the huck?
Thoughts.: Throwing Thought: Forehand Hucks
The key difference between the backhand and forehand hucks is how the body generates power and how power is transferred. Forehands are much more of a finesse throw, but you can still generate a very significant amount of power using your body properly.
Thoughts.: Structuring Your Own Training Program, Part 3
Supplemental work, in my mind, refers to work or mini-workouts that you do in addition to your normal routine(s).
This can refer to grip training, for instance--not enough to be called a "workout" in its own right, really, but it goes great as a finisher after a lifting session. Other things you might consider supplemental work...
